Treatment with Promethazine, also known as Phenergan

The preparation 

Phenergan is an antihistamine used for conditions such as motion sickness, allergies, and sleep problems. Phenergan can also be used as emergency medication during medication withdrawal. 

Mechanism of action 

Phenergan is used during medication withdrawal due to its mildly sedative effect. The preparation will not make you pain-free during the withdrawal process, but it can help you relax and fall asleep, making it easier to get through difficult migraine and headache attacks.

Side effects 

The most common side effects are dry mouth and drowsiness. In general, Phenergan is well tolerated.

Precautions 

Be aware that alcohol, sleeping pills, strong painkillers, other allergy medications, and sedatives enhance the sedative effect of Phenergan.

Due to the sedative effect, caution is advised when driving or operating machinery.

What dosage should you take

Phenergan is taken when there is a need to doze off or sleep – either during the day or at night. The recommended dose is 1 tablet (25 mg). If the effect is insufficient or wears off, you can take another tablet after a minimum of 2 hours. You must not exceed 75 mg – i.e., 3 tablets – per 24 hours.
