What is a concussion - and when does it become post-concussion syndrome?

A concussion occurs when the brain is subjected to a forceful impact or jolt. It is a mild traumatic brain injury that does not show up on a scan, but can significantly impact your daily life.

Most people recover within two to four weeks, but for some, the symptoms persist - this is known as post-concussion syndrome, and it is not something you should simply accept.

If symptoms last more than four weeks, it is called post-concussion syndrome. If they extend over months, it is referred to as persistent post-concussion symptoms. Both conditions can and should be treated.
